Malayali lawyer Aljo K. Joseph appointed Convener as Congress party revamps Supreme Court Legal Cell

New Delhi: The Congress party has reconstituted its Supreme Court Legal Cell as part of an effort to give greater representation and organisational responsibilities to younger lawyers and make the party's legal wing more vibrant and effective.

The reorganisation was announced by Senior Advocate Dr. Anoop George Chaudhari Firoz, Chairman of the Supreme Court Unit of the AICC Legal, Human Rights & RTI Department.

According to the new structure, Aljo K. Joseph, Advocate-on-Record at the Supreme Court, has been appointed Convener of the Supreme Court Legal Cell. Joseph is presently serving as Standing Counsel for the Government of Kerala, where the Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF) is in power. He is also the Treasurer of the Supreme Court Advocates-on-Record Association (SCAORA).

Joseph's appointment gives the Congress Legal Cell a younger leadership with an active presence in the Supreme Court's legal community. As an Advocate-on-Record and office-bearer of SCAORA, he has been involved in the affairs of the Supreme Court's AOR community, besides representing the Kerala government before the apex court.

Aditya Ranjan has been appointed Secretary of the Legal Cell. On the recommendations of the newly appointed Convener, Varun K. Chopra and Ankit Acharya have been appointed Additional Secretaries, while Dushyant Parashar has been appointed Joint Secretary.

The reconstitution is aimed at bringing younger and active members into key organisational positions and strengthening the Congress's legal presence within the legal fraternity. Dr. Chaudhari said that the involvement of progressive and active voices would help take forward the initiatives of the department and propagate the core ideology of the Congress among members of the legal profession.

Dr. Chaudhari has also called upon all members of the Supreme Court Legal Cell to extend their support and cooperation to the newly appointed office-bearers to ensure the smooth and effective functioning of the Cell.
