Major fire razes plastic waste processing plant in Kozhikode’s Thamarassery

A major fire gutted a plastic waste processing palnt near Thamarassery in Kozhikode in the early hours of Thursday, destroying the plant and its building. No casualties were reported as the facility was unoccupied at the time.
The fire erupted around 3.30 am, quickly engulfing the plant premises. With no workers present, the incident did not result in any injuries or loss of life.
The unit processes plastic waste collected from multiple locations. Fire officials suspect that a heap of waste stored inside the factory caught fire, triggering the blaze.
The flames spread to an adjacent building, prompting an immediate response from fire and rescue services. Firefighting operations continued for several hours, with officials confirming that the fire has been brought under control.
Authorities said the exact cause of the fire remains unclear and will be determined after a detailed inspection. Six fire force units are currently deployed at the site.
