Madras High Court orders Udhayanidhi Stalin's release on station bail after police questioning

The Madras High Court on Tuesday ordered the release of former Tamil Nadu Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin on station bail after police questioning, with the state government informing the court that it had no intention of remanding him.

The matter came up before Justice G K Illanthiraiyan, where Advocate General Vijay Narayan submitted that the government would release Udhayanidhi on station bail after questioning him. He also told the court that there was no proposal to seek his judicial remand.

The state government, however, said the DMK leader must cooperate with the police during the investigation into the case, which involves allegations of making innuendos and outraging the modesty of a woman.

Recording the submissions made by the Advocate General, the High Court closed Udhayanidhi's bail petition.

According to party sources, an anticipatory bail plea had been filed soon after police reached Udhayanidhi's residence in Neelankarai to question him over remarks he allegedly made during a protest meeting on the Cauvery issue in Thanjavur on Monday.

Despite the anticipatory bail plea, Udhayanidhi was subsequently arrested and taken to Thanjavur for questioning in connection with the case.
