Kolkata Law College shuts down classes indefinitely amid gang-rape allegations

Kolkata: The authorities of South Calcutta Law College have announced the suspension of all classes for an indefinite period following the alleged torture of a student by an alumnus and two of her seniors. A notification issued by the college on Monday confirmed the decision.

The governing body of the college took the decision to shut down operations temporarily.

"All BA LLB and LLM (General and Honours) classes of South Calcutta Law College will be suspended and the college premises will remain closed for all students until further notice as decided by the Governing Body," the notification, issued by the college authorities on June 29, stated.

Police seal key areas inside college premises

As part of the investigation into the case, the Special Investigating Team (SIT) has sealed several areas within the college.

"The guard room, union room, one washroom and a gate have been sealed as a part of our probe into the matter. These rooms were the place where she was tortured by the three accused," said a senior police officer of Kolkata Police.

Four arrested in connection with the case

The police have arrested four individuals in connection with the incident. Those in custody include the prime accused, Monojit Mishra, along with two other students and the college's security guard.
