COVID-19: 4 more Kerala nurses test positive in Maharashtra

Mumbai: Three nurses from Kerala have tested positive for coronavirus in Mumbai. One nurse, working in Bhatya hospital, and other two nurses, working in Wockhardt hospital, in the city has been diagnosed with the disease. Another Kerala nurse working in Pune has also tested positive for the virus. She is a staff of Rubi Hall hospital in Pune. The increased number of medical staffs contracting the virus in Maharashtra has given rise to anxiety among the people.

A large number of doctors, nurses and lab assistants working at private hospitals have tested positive for coronavirus in the state, which has caused anxiety among people.

Currently, more than one hundred medical workers are being treated for the disease. This includes 60 nurses and 10 doctors. The rest are technicians in cardiac and pathology labs and cleaning staffs.  Out of the total number of nurses who are corona positive, more than 50 of them are from Kerala.

Nurses claim that the lack of protective gears is what lead to large number of them contracting the virus. PPE kits were given only to those working in the COVID isolation wards. They also said that even the staffs who were supposed to be quarantined ended up doing compulsory work.

Most of the nurses share their rooms with others in their hostels or apartments. There are up to eight people sharing a single room in certain cases. Mumbai is the city that has reported the highest number of COVID cases in the entire country.

On Sunday alone, 221 fresh cases were reported from Maharastra. With this, the state inching towards 2000 coronavirus cases.
