AK rifle cartridges, pistol rounds and grenade pins recovered in SIA raid on Kashmir Times office

Srinagar: The State Investigation Agency (SIA) of the Jammu and Kashmir Police conducted a raid at the Jammu office of the Kashmir Times on Thursday after registering a case against the publication and its promoters for allegedly promoting activities against the country. Officials confirmed that the search operation involved a thorough examination of the newspaper’s premises, documents and computer systems.

According to investigators, the SIA recovered cartridges of AK rifles, several pistol rounds and hand grenade pins during the raid, along with other material considered relevant to the case. The nature and source of these items are now under scrutiny, and officials said the promoters of the newspaper are likely to be questioned as part of the ongoing probe.

The investigation is still in its early stages, and the police have not released details regarding the specific allegations that triggered the case. However, officials indicated that the recovery of ammunition and related items will form a significant part of the inquiry.

Responding to the development, Jammu and Kashmir Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Singh Choudhary said any action must be grounded in established wrongdoing and not be carried out for the sake of exerting pressure. He stressed that accountability should be pursued only when evidence justifies it, while cautioning against measures that may appear coercive.

The raid on the Kashmir Times office adds a new dimension to the case as the SIA continues to examine the material seized and the role of individuals associated with the publication. The investigation remains ongoing, and further questioning of the promoters is expected.
