Srirangapatna (Karnataka): Residents of Arekere village in Srirangapatna have raised serious concerns over the alleged misuse of a local government maternity hospital for a private entertainment event organised for the birthday of MLA Ramesh Bandisiddegowda’s mother.

Hospital rooms used for event preparation

Locals alleged that artists performing in a play for the birthday function were provided accommodation inside the public healthcare facility. The performers reportedly used the medical centre's rooms as a backstage area to dress and apply makeup prior to the event.

Social media video triggers backlash

Public scrutiny intensified after a female performer recorded a video reel inside the hospital and posted it on social media. The clip quickly went viral, provoking widespread community criticism over the improper use of a public health facility for private functions.

Villagers demand accountability

Local residents questioned how private performers were allowed to occupy the healthcare facility and raised concerns over potential VIP overreach. They demanded clarity on who authorised access to the hospital, whether formal permission was granted, and if the presence of artists compromised patient care.

Health Minister assures inquiry

Responding to the growing criticism, Karnataka Health Minister U T Khader stated that the administration would look into the issue, specifically addressing the filming of social media content within the medical premises.
