‘I’ve killed the monster’: Om Prakash’s wife allegedly confessed to friend on call after murder

Bengaluru: Former Karnataka Director General and Inspector General of Police (DG&IGP) Om Prakash was found murdered at his residence in HSR Layout on Sunday evening, with police identifying his wife as the prime suspect following an alleged confession made over a phone call.
The 68-year-old retired IPS officer was discovered with multiple stab wounds, lying in a pool of blood on the ground floor of his three-storey residence. His wife, Pallavi, and their daughter were both present in the house at the time of the incident.
According to the police, Pallavi made a video call around 4.30 p.m. to a friend — the wife of another retired IPS officer — during which she reportedly said she had killed “a monster.” She also phoned the emergency helpline 112, prompting the HSR Layout police and Scene of Crime Officers (SOCO) to rush to the scene. There were no signs of forced entry, and a weapon was recovered from the home.
Om Prakash’s son has filed a formal complaint, based on which an FIR has been registered. Police have since detained Pallavi and are questioning her about her alleged involvement in the murder.
Senior officers, including Karnataka DGP Alok Mohan and Bengaluru City Police Commissioner B. Dayananda, visited the residence to review the situation. A forensic team was also deployed to collect evidence.
According to a senior investigating officer, there are indications of internal family disputes, including property-related and marital discord, noting that Om Prakash had confided in associates about threats to his life.
Additional Commissioner of Police Vikas Kumar Vikash told reporters that a weapon used in the attack had been seized and further clarity on the cause of death would come after the post-mortem report from St John’s Hospital. He confirmed that three people — Om Prakash, his wife, and daughter — were inside the house during the incident, and one of them has given an initial statement.
Originally from Champaran district in Bihar, Om Prakash was a 1981-batch IPS officer who served as Karnataka’s top cop from 2015 until his retirement in 2017.
