Karnataka government imposes ban on official foreign trips until end of 2025

Bengaluru: The Karnataka government has imposed an immediate ban on all official foreign tours by government officials until December 2025.

The decision follows concerns over several officials failing to submit mandatory reports after returning from foreign study trips. According to a circular issued on September 23 by the Department of Personnel and Administrative Reforms and approved by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, officials who travelled abroad for study or research between August 2024 and July 2025 were required to submit detailed reports on their learnings and recommendations within one week of their return.

The circular clearly states that “all officers who undertook official foreign travel for study and research purposes during this period must submit a study report with their findings and recommendations to the government within one week.”

Furthermore, the government has made it mandatory for officials to submit reports from previous foreign trips before any new travel proposals can be considered.

The circular, signed by T Mahantesh, Under Secretary to the Government, also mentions that the ban on foreign tours will remain in effect until further notice.
