BJP MP Kangana Ranaut has lashed out at a derogatory remark made by a former Punjab MP over her comment that the farmers' agitation could have spiraled into a Bangladesh-like law and order situation.

The actor-turned-politician took to social media platform X to state, "It seems this country will never stop trivialising rape, today this senior politician compared getting raped to riding a bicycle no wonder rapes and violence against women for fun, is so deep rooted in the psyche of this patriarchal nation that it is casually used to tease or mock a women even if she is a high profile filmmaker or politician."

SAD leader's derogatory remark

In a highly controversial statement, former Punjab MP Simranjit Singh Mann, leader of the Shiromani Akali Dal (Amritsar), claimed that Kangana Ranaut has "a lot of experience with rape." He suggested that Ranaut could provide insights into how rape occurs due to her supposed extensive experience with the issue.

"You can ask her (Kangana Ranaut) how rape happens so that people can be explained how rape happens. She has a lot of experience of rape," he said.

What is the controversy about?

The controversy stems from recent comments made by Kangana Ranaut, who suggested in an interview that if India's leadership had not been strong, the agitation might have escalated into a situation akin to what happened in Bangladesh.

Ranaut alleged in a video posted on social media platform X that during the farmers' protest against the now-repealed farm laws, "bodies were seen hanging and rapes were taking place," and she accused foreign powers like China and the United States of orchestrating the unrest.

Following these remarks, Ranaut stated that she was reprimanded by BJP leadership. She clarified, "I do not think I am the final voice of the party. I am not that crazy or stupid to believe that."

For context, in Bangladesh, a student protest over job reservations turned violent, resulting in the ouster of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. Fearing for her safety, she fled Dhaka in a military helicopter and subsequently sought asylum in other countries.

Kangana Ranaut, a National Award-winning actress, recently won a Lok Sabha seat from Mandi in Himachal Pradesh.
