Jharkhand Assembly Election Result: JMM's Uma Kant Rajak wins Chandankiyari

JMM candidate Umakant Rajak achieved a significant win in the Chandankiyari seat in Jharkhand's Bokaro district, securing 90,027 votes. Arjun Rajwar came in second place with 56,294 votes and former victor Amar Kumar Bauri got 56,091 votes.

The voting, which took place in the second phase on Wednesday, saw a voter turnout of 74.25%.

Political Dynamics of Chandankiyari
Chandankiyari, a reserved SC seat in Bokaro district, witnessed a fierce contest between BJP’s Amar Kumar Bauri and JMM’s Rajak. Bauri, the Leader of the Opposition in the Jharkhand Assembly, was backed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who campaigned in the region.

In the 2019 election, Bauri won the seat with 67,739 votes, narrowly defeating Rajak, who secured 58,528 votes as an AJSU candidate. Rajak’s recent defection to JMM had added a new twist to the contest, intensifying the rivalry.

Voter Demographics and Engagement
Chandankiyari's electorate included approximately 240,631 voters, with 23.5% from the SC community, 7.7% from the ST community, and 11.3% Muslims. The 2019 election saw a strong voter turnout of 74.02%, highlighting the constituency's importance in shaping the state’s political future.

Located in the Greater Bokaro region, Chandankiyari is an industrial hub, contributing to the state’s economic landscape. This economic importance heightened the political significance of the constituency.
