Jammu and Kashmir’s Reasi imposes ban on alcohol and intoxicants ahead of Maha Shivaratri

Reasi (Jammu and Kashmir): Ahead of the Maha Shivaratri celebrations at Shivkhori Ransoo, the Reasi administration has imposed a ban on the sale, possession and consumption of alcohol, bhang, and other intoxicants within a 3-kilometer radius from February 14 to 16, 2026.
The order, issued by Rakesh Kumar, JKAS, Additional District Magistrate, Reasi, aims to maintain law and order during the festival, which is expected to attract a large number of devotees from across the country. Authorities cited concerns that some vendors disguised as devotees sell intoxicants like bhang and marijuana, and that misuse of liquor or other substances could lead to disturbances during the celebrations.
The order explicitly prohibits the sale, possession and consumption of liquor, bhang, marijuana and other intoxicants within the designated area for the specified period. The administration has directed officials, including the police, Excise Department and local revenue authorities, to ensure strict enforcement of the ban.
