J&K tourism rebounds: Foreign tourists return, finds warm welcome

Srinagar: Despite the recent terror attack in Pahalgam in April, foreign tourists, primarily from Europe, are returning to Jammu and Kashmir, sharing positive experiences after feeling safe in the region.
Several visitors have praised the local hospitality, describing the people as '’friendly and welcoming'. Carolina, a tourist from Poland, expressed her delight, speaking to ANI, she said, "We feel very safe here. Kashmiri people are always smiling -- we really feel welcomed here." Margret, another foreign tourist, echoed similar sentiments, "It's my first time here, and people are very friendly and hospitable. They want to take photos with us, and we've tried very good food."
The Pahalgam terror attack had a significant impact on Jammu and Kashmir's tourism sector, but joint efforts with embassies and the local government are helping to restore confidence. Yunis, an international tour guide, acknowledged the challenges but highlighted the progress made: "With our joint efforts with the Polish Embassy and European Union members, we have worked to revive tourism in Kashmir."
The government is making strong efforts to revive travel to the region. Recently, the Directorate of Sports and Physical Education, University of Jammu, in collaboration with the Indian Army, organised a ten-day Sports Camp at the Bhadarwah Campus in Doda district to promote adventure tourism and indigenous games among the youth.
The Pahalgam terror attack on April 22 resulted in the deaths of 26 civilians, mostly tourists. However, the positive feedback from tourists and joint efforts are helping to boost the tourism sector in Jammu and Kashmir.
