IndiGo appeal rejected; Rs 20 lakh fines on senior executives for pilot training lapses

New Delhi: IndiGo on Friday said its appeal against penalties imposed by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) on two senior executives has been rejected by the DGCA Appellate Authority.

In September last year, the DGCA had fined the airline’s Director of Flight Operations and Director of Training Rs 20 lakh each for allegedly failing to use qualified simulators for pilot training at certain airports, particularly Category C aerodromes, which require additional pilot training due to operational challenges.

The Appellate Authority, in an order dated January 7, upheld the penalties. “The matter has been disposed of by reinstating the penalty of Rs 20 lakh each on the Director Flight Operations and Director Training of the company,” IndiGo’s parent InterGlobe Aviation said in a filing to the BSE.

IndiGo had earlier informed the stock exchange that it was contesting the order. Following the news, shares of IndiGo fell 1.22%, closing at Rs 4,844.70 on the BSE on Friday.
