India’s largest cruise terminal unveiled: A ₹556 crore marvel of beauty and luxury

India’s maritime ambitions received a major boost with the inauguration of the country’s largest cruise terminal, a ₹556 crore marvel of luxury and scale at Mumbai’s Indira Dock. The unveiling was part of a massive ₹34,200 crore development initiative launched during the ‘Samudra se Samriddhi’ event in Bhavnagar, Gujarat.
The cruise terminal, designed to elevate India’s position in global marine tourism, headlines a series of infrastructure upgrades worth ₹7,870 crore in the maritime sector. These include a new container terminal at Syama Prasad Mookerjee Port in Kolkata, expanded cargo handling facilities at Paradip Port, the Tuna Tekra Multi-Cargo Terminal, and improved connectivity and safety infrastructure at Kamarajar Port in Ennore. Coastal protection works were also announced for Chennai Port and Car Nicobar Island, alongside a multi-purpose berth and Green Bio-Methanol Plant at Deendayal Port, Kandla, and ship repair hubs in Patna and Varanasi.
In addition to maritime infrastructure, the event showcased a broader vision for sustainable and inclusive development across Gujarat, with ₹26,354 crore allocated to energy, healthcare and transport projects. Among the key inaugurations were the HPLNG Regasification Terminal at Chhara Port, the Acrylics and Oxo Alcohol Project at Gujarat IOCL Refinery, and several renewable energy initiatives including the 600 MW Green Shoe Initiative, PM-KUSUM 475 MW solar feeder for farmers, and the 45 MW Badeli Solar PV Project. Dhordo village was also declared fully solarised.
Further investments were announced in LNG infrastructure, coastal resilience, highway expansion and healthcare upgrades. These included the four-laning of 70 km of national highways and enhancements at Sir T General Hospital in Bhavnagar and Guru Govind Singh Government Hospital in Jamnagar.
The event also featured an exhibition and a vibrant roadshow through Bhavnagar, underscoring the scale and ambition of the development vision taking shape across the region.
