New Delhi: Indian Railways clarified that it has not issued any new directive making it mandatory for passengers to carry a printed copy of unreserved train tickets, rebutting media reports that claimed a change in ticketing rules.

In an official clarification on Friday, the Railways said passengers travelling with unreserved tickets must carry a physical ticket if a printout has been taken, irrespective of whether the ticket was booked online or offline, in line with existing railway norms. However, passengers who book unreserved tickets digitally and do not take a printout are permitted to show the digital ticket on the same mobile device used for booking when asked for verification.

The Railways stressed that no fresh instructions have been issued on this matter and described reports suggesting otherwise as misleading.
