Good news for train travellers! Indian Railways has announced plans to double the number of trains originating from 48 major cities by 2030. The move is aimed at easing crowding at busy stations, making journeys more comfortable, and improving connectivity across the country.

Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said, “We're expanding coaching terminals and enhancing sectional and operational capacities across various cities to address growing passenger demand and reduce congestion. This initiative will upgrade our railway network and improve connectivity nationwide.”

For commuters and long-distance travellers, this means more train options, less overcrowding, and shorter waiting times at stations.

Indian Railways plans to add platforms, expand stabling lines, upgrade signalling systems, and develop new stations around major hubs. In Pune, for example, stations at Hadapsar, Khadki, and Alandi will be upgraded to distribute train traffic more evenly, while additional platforms will be built at Pune station itself.

The project will also benefit daily commuters, with suburban train services being strengthened and punctuality improved. Passengers can look forward to smoother journeys, reduced delays, and better facilities at key stations.
