Indian family from Hyderabad dies in fiery car crash in US vacation tragedy

Dallas: A family of four from Hyderabad, India, died in a horrific car crash in Dallas, Texas, while returning from a vacation visit to relatives in Atlanta. The accident occurred when a mini-truck travelling on the wrong side of the road collided head-on with their vehicle, which burst into flames on impact.

The deceased have been identified as Sri Venkat, his wife Tejaswini, and their two young children. The intensity of the fire was such that the car was reduced to ashes, leaving the victims' bodies charred beyond recognition. Emergency responders were only able to recover bone fragments from the wreckage.

DNA testing is currently underway to confirm the identities of the victims before the remains are repatriated to India. The Indian Consulate in coordination with US local and federal officials is working to facilitate this process.

The family had recently travelled to Atlanta and were en route back to Dallas when the fatal accident occurred.

This latest tragedy adds to a growing number of fatal accidents involving Indian nationals in the US:

• In September 2024, four Indians were killed in Anna, Texas, after a truck rear-ended their SUV, causing a fire.
• In August 2024, an Indian-origin couple and their daughter died in another Texas crash, leaving behind a surviving teenage son.
• In May 2025, two Indian students died in a crash in New York, with CCTV footage showing their car losing control before impact.

These recurring incidents have raised safety concerns among the Indian diaspora in the United States, especially around reckless driving and vehicle fire-related fatalities.

Authorities in Dallas have launched an investigation into the crash. Updates are expected as the forensic identification process progresses.
