Three new airlines move closer to launch after getting government nod

India’s fast-growing aviation sector is set to see new players enter the market, with Shankh Air, Al Hind Air and FlyExpress moving closer to launching operations after receiving key approvals from the government.
Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu said that he met the teams of all three airlines over the past week as part of the government’s efforts to encourage new carriers in the country. In a social media post, the minister said these airlines have received No Objection Certificates (NOCs) from the Ministry of Civil Aviation.
Shankh Air had received its NOC earlier, while Al Hind Air and FlyExpress were granted their approvals this week, marking an important step in their journey towards starting commercial flights.
An NOC is the first major clearance required for a new airline. After this, the airline must apply for an Air Operator Certificate (AOC) from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), which is mandatory before flight operations can begin.
Naidu said the government is keen to encourage more airlines as competition helps improve services, keep airfares competitive, and expand connectivity, especially to smaller cities and towns.
He also highlighted the role of the UDAN regional connectivity scheme, which has helped smaller airlines such as Star Air, IndiaOne Air and Fly91 connect underserved regions across the country. According to the minister, there is significant scope for further growth in regional aviation.
India is among the world’s fastest-growing aviation markets, driven by rising travel demand, an expanding middle class, and supportive government policies. The entry of new airlines is expected to further strengthen the sector and offer passengers more travel options in the coming months.
