India extends closure of 24 airports amid escalating tensions with Pakistan

In response to the escalating tensions between India and Pakistan, the Indian government has extended the closure of 24 airports located near the western border until May 15, 2025. This decision follows recent cross-border drone and missile threats, prompting heightened security measures nationwide.
The affected airports include key locations such as Chandigarh, Srinagar, Amritsar, Ludhiana, Bhuntar, Kishangarh, Patiala, Shimla, Jaisalmer, Pathankot, Jammu, Bikaner, Leh, and Porbandar. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) issued a Notice to Airmen (NOTAM) formalizing the extension of these closures.
Major airlines, including Air India and IndiGo, have canceled numerous flights and are offering refunds or alternative arrangements to affected passengers. Travelers are advised to check with their respective airlines for the latest updates and rebooking options.
In light of these developments, the DGCA has announced that its offices will remain open on Saturday and Monday, foregoing the usual weekend break. This move aims to ensure continuous monitoring of the situation and provide necessary support to the aviation sector during this period of heightened alert.
The Ministry of Civil Aviation continues to coordinate with security agencies and airline operators to assess the situation and implement appropriate measures to safeguard civil aviation operations. Passengers are urged to stay informed through official channels and exercise patience as authorities work to manage the disruptions caused by the current geopolitical tensions.
