India-China border fake videos circulate online; PIB warns against unverified LAC claims
Unverified videos and visuals claiming to show developments along the India-China border are being circulated on social media, prompting the Press Information Bureau (PIB) to issue a caution against spreading misleading information.
The Office of the Principal Director General of Press Information Bureau (PIB) has advised citizens and media organisations to rely only on official updates from the Ministry of Defence and the Indian Armed Forces regarding developments along the Line of Actual Control (LAC).
The advisory comes after several posts began circulating on social media platforms with claims that the visuals showed the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) near the India-China border. Officials said these visuals have not been verified and should not be considered authentic.
The PIB has urged people to exercise caution while consuming and sharing content related to sensitive border issues. Social media platforms have also been requested to remove misleading content that could create confusion among users.
Officials said the circulation of unauthenticated visuals and claims can contribute to misinformation, particularly on matters related to national security and border developments.
The advisory comes amid repeated attempts to spread false information regarding the India-China border situation.
Earlier claim of Chinese Army entering India was found fake
In an earlier instance, social media posts had falsely claimed that the Chinese Army had entered 60 kilometres inside Indian territory.
The PIB Fact Check unit later clarified that the claim was false and that the videos shared along with the posts were unrelated to the India-China border.
Authorities have reiterated that official statements, photographs and videos released by the Ministry of Defence and the Indian Armed Forces remain the most reliable sources for information on border-related developments.
Citizens have been advised to verify the authenticity of content before sharing it online to prevent the spread of misinformation.
