New Delhi: The Opposition INDIA bloc will hold a public impeachment-style programme against Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar at Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge’s official residence in New Delhi on October 30, Congress leader Jairam Ramesh announced on Wednesday.
In a post on X, Ramesh said the programme would be held at 3.30 pm at 10, Rajaji Marg, after the bloc was denied permission to use other locations.
“Having been denied other locations, the INDIA janbandhan will be holding a public impeachment of Gyanesh Kumar at 10, Rajaji Marg, New Delhi at 3.30 pm on Friday, Oct 30, 2026,” he wrote.
Ramesh accused the CEC of violating the Constitution and undermining electoral democracy. He also alleged that Kumar had misled the Supreme Court.

Kharge calls INDIA bloc leaders to attend
Earlier on Tuesday, Kharge invited INDIA bloc leaders to attend the programme at his residence on October 30. The Congress has described the event as a public impeachment-style proceeding against the CEC.
The bloc had also planned a ‘Dilli Chalo’ march and a public gathering at Ramlila Maidan on November 1, extending its campaign against Kumar.
The INDIA bloc has been protesting against the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls and demanding Kumar’s resignation or removal over alleged electoral irregularities and concerns about voter deletions.
The agitation has continued for months and has seen police action, with more than 100 demonstrators detained amid heightened security in Central Delhi, according to the report.
The Opposition has maintained that its protest will continue until accountability is established within the Election Commission of India.
