INDIA Bloc Meeting: Opposition seeks Education Minister’s resignation, to write to CJI on SIR

The INDIA bloc on Monday projected a show of unity ahead of the Monsoon Session of Parliament, with 25 opposition parties agreeing on a common strategy to raise issues ranging from alleged electoral irregularities and examination controversies to unemployment, inflation and farmers’ concerns.
Addressing a joint press conference after the meeting at the Constitution Club in New Delhi, Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge said the alliance had reached a consensus on five key issues that would form the basis of its political and parliamentary campaign in the coming months.

He also announced that the opposition bloc would now meet every two months, with the next meeting scheduled for August 8.
The gathering brought together several senior opposition leaders, including Congress Parliamentary Party chairperson Sonia Gandhi and Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee, whose warm exchange before the meeting became one of the notable visuals of the day.
Alliance targets government on elections and examinations
Kharge said the INDIA bloc had unanimously agreed to write to the Chief Justice of India over concerns related to the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, alleged voter disenfranchisement and what opposition parties described as attempts at ‘stealing elections’.
‘The letter will be submitted to the Chief Justice soon,’ he said, signalling that the alliance intends to pursue the matter through institutional channels.
The opposition also unanimously demanded the immediate resignation of the Union Education Minister, alleging that lakhs of students appearing for examinations such as NEET and CBSE had suffered due to controversies and irregularities under the ministry’s watch.
Kharge said all participating parties agreed that the issue of examinations and the future of young students must be raised forcefully both inside and outside Parliament.
Focus on economy, inflation and alliance coordination
Apart from electoral and education-related issues, the INDIA bloc resolved to press the Centre on what it described as the country’s worsening economic situation.
Kharge said the alliance would seek an immediate all-party meeting to discuss unemployment, price rise, farmers’ distress and broader economic concerns.
‘The INDIA alliance meeting has concluded, with 25 parties in attendance. Everyone shared their views and we reached a consensus on five points. We have agreed today that we will fight for these issues, work on them and move forward,’ he said.
However, the meeting also reflected some underlying tensions within the opposition camp. CPM general secretary MA Baby said his party had conveyed concerns about the functioning of the alliance and urged all partners to act in a more focused and responsible manner.
He also criticised Congress leaders for remarks made during the Kerala Assembly election campaign, where the CPM-led Left Democratic Front was accused of having an understanding with the BJP.
Meanwhile, RLD national secretary Anupam Mishra questioned the durability of the Congress-Samajwadi Party alliance in Uttar Pradesh, claiming that differences between the two parties could eventually weaken the partnership.
Despite these differences, the overall mood of the meeting was one of coordination and consolidation.
With the Monsoon Session approaching, opposition leaders sought to project a united front against the BJP-led government, focusing on electoral transparency, economic challenges, rising prices, employment opportunities, and the concerns of farmers and students.
