MEA blasts Canada minister's allegations against Amit Shah, terms it 'irresponsible action' | WATCH

New Delhi: The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has expressed strong objections to comments made by Canadian Deputy Foreign Affairs Minister David Morrison regarding India's Union Home Minister Amit Shah. 

Speaking at a press conference, MEA Spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal revealed that a representative from the Canadian High Commission was summoned for discussions on the matter.

Canada's National Security and Intelligence Adviser Nathalie Drouin and David Morrison members of the national security committee of the Canadian Parliament confirmed a leaked Washington Post reports alleging that Shah was behind the campaign of targeting Khalistani separatists in Canada.

In response to a question Morrison said he had “confirmed” Shah's name to The Washington Post. “The journalist called me and asked if it was that person. I confirmed it was that person,” he said.

In a statement, Jaiswal emphasized that the Indian government protested "in the strongest terms" the "absurd and baseless references" made by Morrison. He pointed out that the revelation of high Canadian officials allegedly leaking unfounded insinuations to international media reflects a deliberate strategy to discredit India and sway other nations.

"This only confirms the longstanding view of the Government of India regarding the current Canadian government's political agenda and behavioural pattern," Jaiswal stated. He warned that such "irresponsible actions" could have serious consequences for bilateral relations between the two countries.
