Weather in Delhi today: IMD issues yellow alert as rain brings relief from heat

New Delhi: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for Delhi and surrounding NCR regions after rainfall lashed several parts of the capital on Thursday afternoon, bringing much-needed relief from intense summer heat.
According to weather updates, rain was recorded in multiple areas around 2 pm, including parts of Delhi, Sonipat and Faridabad. The showers led to a noticeable drop in temperature by around two to four degrees Celsius, easing the impact of hot and humid conditions that had persisted over the past few days.
The IMD has warned that more rain and thunderstorms are likely overnight under the yellow alert category. The advisory indicates the possibility of lightning, gusty winds and moderate rainfall, which may cause temporary disruption in some areas.
The weather department has also stated that unstable atmospheric conditions are supporting continued thunderstorm activity across the region. Residents have been advised to remain cautious, especially during lightning activity and sudden weather changes.
While the rainfall has provided short-term relief from heat, officials have cautioned that intermittent showers may continue in the coming days as weather systems remain active over north India.
