IAF fighters tracked Sheikh Hasina's aircraft soon after it entered Indian airspace: Report

New Delhi: The Indian Air Force fighter aircraft were airborne soon after the Bangladeshi C-130 aircraft, carrying former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and her entourage, entered Indian airspace.

According to ANI, the Indian Air Force and Indian Army were prepared to meet any contingency. Meanwhile, Hasina landed at the IAF airbase in Hindon Airport near Delhi on Monday evening.

Earlier today, the Border Security Force (BSF) issued a "high alert" across all its formations along the 4,096-km India-Bangladesh border in the wake of the developments in the neighbouring country.

BSF Director General (Acting) Daljit Singh Chawdhary and other senior commanders have landed in Kolkata to review the security situation.

The DG toured the North 24 Paragans district and Sunderbans area to review preparations. The force has directed all its field commanders to be "on the ground" and "deploy all personnel on border duty immediately." 

More than 100 people have been killed in the protests against the Hasina government in the last two days.

The country has been witnessing fierce demonstrations over the controversial quota system that reserves 30 per cent of jobs for the families of veterans who fought the 1971 liberation war.
