‘I reject such news’: Gaurav Gogoi on Bordoloi resignation ahead of Assam Assembly Election 2026

Assam: Assam Congress leader Gaurav Gogoi has dismissed reports that senior leader Pradyut Bordoloi has quit the party. “"I reject such news, the Assam CM is continuously trying to defame our senior leader Pradyut Bordoloi, we met Pradyut Bordoloi, we discussed about the elections, and the vision for new Assam...,” Gogoi said.
Bordoloi, a former state cabinet minister and two-time MP from Nagaon, submitted his resignation to Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge on Tuesday, just 20 days ahead of the state assembly elections scheduled for April 9.
The resignation comes amid internal party tensions, following a dispute over the renomination of Lahorighat MLA Asif Mohammad Nazar.

Another senior party leader, Nabajyoti Talukdar, also resigned earlier on Tuesday, reportedly after being denied a ticket from Guwahati Central.
Gogoi and AICC general secretary Jitendra Singh are currently meeting Bordoloi in New Delhi to discuss the matter, with party sources saying the talks are ongoing. Bordoloi had also highlighted concerns over an attack in April 2025 involving Nazar’s aide, Emdadul Islam, which led to police charges.
