'I am only 15': Girl apologises to PM Modi, says protest crowd influenced her
A fresh video has surfaced online showing a young woman, identified in police records as Singh, apologising for using abusive language against Prime Minister Narendra Modi during a student protest at Jantar Mantar on July 23.
The video, which has gone viral, shows her with folded hands seeking forgiveness. Wearing a striped T-shirt, she says she regrets her remarks and claims she was influenced by others during the protest.
A discrepancy has, however, emerged over her age. While the police First Information Report (FIR) identifies her as a 25-year-old, she claims in the video that she is "just 15 years old".
Protester expresses remorse
In the video, the woman says she deeply regrets her actions during the demonstration organised by the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP).
"I came under the influence of some people at the protest and said a lot of bad things against the Prime Minister," she says.
She adds, "I am only 15 years old. Whatever I did was not worthy of forgiveness. I have said a lot of bad things."
Ending her appeal, she says, "I apologise to the entire country. I am so ashamed. I can't even look at myself. Please forgive me."
PM Modi urges compassion as investigation continues
The apology video emerged hours after Prime Minister Modi shared a message on Instagram on Friday, saying the abusive slogans directed at him and his late mother were "deeply disturbing". At the same time, he said young people should be given an opportunity to learn from their mistakes.
Despite the Prime Minister's remarks, legal proceedings are continuing.
A Zero FIR was registered in Noida before being transferred to Delhi's Parliament Street police station for further investigation. Singh has reportedly not returned to her Noida residence since the protest, while security staff at her housing society said her apartment remains locked.
The CJP has criticised the criminal case, describing it as a threat to free speech. Police, however, continue to investigate the alleged intent to disturb public peace.
