Soon, booze at doorsteps in several states including Kerala

New Delhi: If everything falls on line, one can order not just food, but alcohol as well through online delivery applications soon.
Quoting industry sources, a media house reports that online delivery applications such as Swiggy, Zomato and Big Basket may start delivery of liquor in states, including Kerala. However, regarding Kerala, the decision of the state government will be decisive on the proposal of the delivery platform companies.
In the first phase, low-intoxicating liquors, including beer and wine, will be distributed. The first phase of this will be implemented in places like Kerala, Delhi, Karnataka, Haryana, Punjab, Tamil Nadu and Goa, the report quoted industry leaders.
At present, home delivery of liquor is allowed in West Bengal and Odisha. Liquor delivery in West Bengal is done by Swiggy and Spencer's Retail.
Quoting officials, the report said that state governments have sought feedback from e-commerce platforms on the pros and cons of implementing the scheme.
Swiggy Corporate Affairs vice president Dinker Vashishth said that the implementation of online liquor sales will ensure security and ensure age restrictions.
During the covid period, liquor was temporarily distributed online in states, including Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand and Assam. But later it was discontinued.
However, the media report says that liquor is still available through some local online outlets.
