Mumbai: In the search for a Shiv Sena leader's son after a deadly BMW crash in Mumbai, CCTV footage shows the main suspect, Mihir Shah, leaving a pub in a Mercedes with four friends. Police say he later switched to driving the BMW with his driver as a passenger. The speeding BMW hit a scooter in Worli early Sunday, killing a woman riding with her husband. Mihir was allegedly drunk at the time. Mumbai Police have issued a Look Out Circular (LOC) against a 24-year-old man

Mihir's father, Rajesh Shah, a leader in Chief Minister Eknath Shinde's party, and the BMW's driver, Rajrishi Bidawat, were arrested for not cooperating with the police. The BMW was registered in Rajesh Shah's name. Mihir remains missing, with police suspecting his girlfriend might be hiding him. She is being questioned, and a lookout notice has been issued for him.

The victim, Kaveri Nakhwa, 45, was traveling to Worli Koliwada from Mazagaon Docks with her husband, Pradip, when the accident happened. Both were thrown in the air and landed on the car's bonnet. Pradip managed to jump off, but the vehicle dragged Kaveri about 100 meters as it tried to escape. She was rushed to a hospital but was declared dead on arrival. Mihir and the driver fled, abandoning the car in Bandra East before splitting up in separate autos. The driver was arrested in the evening, while police continue to search for Mihir.

According to police, Mihir and his friends had been drinking at a bar in Juhu the night before the crash and went for a long drive afterward. Mihir insisted on driving as they reached Worli, and the accident occurred soon after. Police have filed charges under the new criminal code, Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, for culpable homicide not amounting to murder, rash driving, and destruction of evidence, along with provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde has promised action, stating that everyone is equal before the law. This incident is similar to a previous hit-and-run case involving a Porsche and the minor son of an influential realtor, which resulted in the deaths of two young engineers in Pune. The boy was found drunk, and his parents and grandfather were arrested for allegedly trying to destroy evidence.
