‘He loves the cat more than me,’ Bengaluru woman files complaint; Court stays probe

Bengaluru: The Karnataka High Court has stayed an investigation into a unique complaint filed by a wife alleging that her husband was overly attentive to their pet cat. The husband approached the High Court seeking relief against the complaint lodged by his wife with the police.  

The case, involving a couple from Bengaluru, reached the High Court under unusual circumstances. Justice M. Nagaprasanna observed that the core of the dispute revolved around disagreements over the pet cat. The wife accused her husband of prioritising the pet over her, leading to repeated arguments between the couple.  

The court highlighted that the complaint did not involve allegations of dowry harassment or cruelty by the husband but was solely centred on the pet cat. It further noted that the issue could not be considered an offence under Section 498A of the Indian Penal Code, which deals with cruelty by a husband or his relatives.  

This rare and intriguing case has drawn attention for its focus on a marital dispute involving a pet rather than conventional issues.
