Chandigarh: A 26-year-old man from Haryana’s Jind district was shot dead in California, United States, after objecting to a man urinating outside the store where he worked, according to his family.

Suresh Kumar Gautam, the head of Barah Kalan village in Jind, identified the victim as Kapil, who had gone to the US nearly three years ago. He said Kapil was murdered on Saturday while performing his duties as store security staff.

"Kapil was shot dead by a resident when he tried to stop him from urinating in public," Gautam said over the phone, quoting the family.

He explained that Kapil saw a man urinating outside the store and objected. An argument followed, after which the accused took out a gun and shot him dead. "Later, Kapil's family received information about the incident," Gautam added.

Family devastated

The village head said Kapil’s family has been inconsolable since receiving the tragic news. "Kapil is survived by his parents and two sisters, one of whom is married. His father is a farmer and has a small land holding," he said.

Call for government support

Gautam appealed to both the central and Haryana governments to assist in bringing back Kapil’s mortal remains from the US.
