Chandigarh: Congress has announced that it will field top wrestlers Vinesh Phogat and Bajrang Punia as candidates in the Haryana assembly elections. This decision follows a meeting on Wednesday with Vinesh Phogat, Bajrang Punia, and Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and K C Venugopal.

Vinesh Phogat, who recently attracted attention after missing out on a gold medal at the Paris Olympics, has been vocal on various issues, including the sexual harassment allegations against Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh and problems faced by farmers during the protests. She will contest from the Julana constituency while Bajrang Punia will represent the Badli constituency.

The election may become more complex with the potential participation of the Phogat sisters. Babita Phogat, Vinesh's sister, has already been involved in politics, having contested in the Lok Sabha elections as a BJP candidate. Speculation is ongoing about a possible face-off between the Phogat sisters in this election.
