Thiruvananthapuram: Commenting on the ongoing trends in the assembly election results, Congress MP Shashi Tharoor expressed that he was "genuinely surprised" to see the BJP leading in Haryana.

Congress MP Shashi Tharoor commented on the ongoing election trends in Haryana and Jammu & Kashmir, advising people not to rush to conclusions. Speaking about the results, he said, "We need to wait and see. It's too early to make any final conclusions."

Tharoor noted that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) seems to be leading in most of the seats in Haryana, calling it a surprising outcome.

"This is a genuine surprise. The whole exit poll industry must be feeling embarrassed right now," he added.

However, Tharoor urged caution, saying, "Let us wait for the final results before making any judgments."

Reflecting on the situation, he also remarked, "The signs in Haryana are different from what we were expecting, but they seem better than what the INDIA bloc had anticipated in Jammu & Kashmir."

A total of 1,031 candidates, including 464 Independents and 101 women, are in the fray on Haryana's 90 constituencies which voted in a single phase on October 5. While, the Jammu and Kashmir National Conference and Congress, partners in the INDIA alliance, jointly contested the assembly elections while the PDP and BJP fought the elections on their own. The J-K assembly election for 90 constituencies was held over three phases on September 18, September 25 and October 1.
