Guwahati: Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the new terminal of Lokapriya Gopinath Bardoloi International Airport (LGBIA) in Guwahati on Saturday.

The Integrated Terminal 2 Building can accommodate 13.1 million passengers annually.

Modi toured the Rs 4,000 crore facility.

The airport bears the name of Assam's inaugural chief minister, whose 80-foot statue Modi unveiled outside the premises.

Project expenditure totals Rs 5,000 crore, incorporating Rs 1,000 crore dedicated to Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO) infrastructure.

Authorities position the airport as Northeast India's primary aviation centre and a portal to Southeast Asia.

Spanning 1,40,000 square metres, the terminal reflects Assam's abundant biodiversity and cultural legacy in its architecture.
