New Delhi: The ongoing inheritance battle within the Kapoor family turned bitter on Thursday, as actor Karisma Kapoor’s children accused their stepmother, Priya Kapur, of being "greedy" and likened her to a "Cinderella stepmother" during a hearing in the Delhi High Court.

The accusations were made by the legal counsel representing Samaira and Kiaan Raj, children of late industrialist Sunjay Kapur, as they challenged the will, which reportedly involves assets worth over ₹30,000 crore.

Appearing before Justice Jyoti Singh, the counsel alleged that Priya Kapur received a disproportionate share of the inheritance- 60% of the total assets, with an additional 75% stake in the family trust,12% was left to her son.

“She is a nominee, and she holds the assets. How far the forgery of documents goes will have to be unravelled, and there is enough evidence to conduct a probe,” the counsel told the court.

Referring to the well-known 1950 Walt Disney film, the counsel remarked, “This is a Cinderella stepmother,” suggesting Priya was attempting to restrict the rightful share of the children.

Forgery allegations and questions on will’s validity

The counsel questioned the authenticity of Sunjay Kapur’s will, claiming it was unlikely such a large estate would be distributed without legal consultation. He alleged that the will was modified during a family holiday, and claimed the executor received the document just a day before its official reading.

“Not possible that he would not have consulted an advocate before creating a will and bequeathing such a large estate,” the counsel said, pressing for a thorough investigation.

On September 26, the court allowed Priya Kapur to submit a list of Sunjay’s assets in a sealed cover and advised all parties to refrain from sharing sensitive details with the media. Earlier, on September 10, the court had directed Priya to furnish full details of the estate.

Priya Kapur’s response:

Priya Kapur, meanwhile, has informed the court that they have already received Rs 1,900 crore from the family trust.

The court has scheduled the next hearing for October 13.
