New Delhi: The Border Security Force (BSF) apprehended four Pakistani fishermen and seized their boat after they allegedly entered Indian waters illegally near the sensitive Sir Creek region in Gujarat's Kutch district, officials said on Sunday (October 25).

The fishermen were intercepted on Saturday evening during a routine patrol in the marshy border region, which lies along the India-Pakistan maritime boundary.

"The fishermen were apprehended during patrolling by the BSF team in the Sir Creek area," the officials said.

Security personnel also seized a fishing boat during the operation. However, the BSF has not yet released the identities of the four detained fishermen or further information about the vessel.

The Sir Creek region, situated along the India-Pakistan border in Gujarat's Kutch district, remains a sensitive area because of its disputed boundary and challenging terrain.

The region is characterised by extensive marshlands, tidal waterways and shifting water levels, making surveillance and patrolling particularly difficult for security forces.

The BSF maintains regular patrols in the area to prevent unauthorised border crossings, infiltration and other illegal activities.

Fishing activities in the waters near the international boundary have occasionally resulted in Pakistani fishermen crossing into Indian territory, sometimes inadvertently.

Indian security personnel have previously apprehended Pakistani fishermen and recovered abandoned fishing boats during operations in the Sir Creek region.

The latest apprehensions come as the BSF continues surveillance along the sensitive maritime frontier.

Further details about the detained fishermen and the seized boat are awaited.
