Mumbai: Comedian Kapil Sharma has been provided with enhanced security by the Mumbai police following two shooting incidents at his recently opened café, Kap’s Cafe, in Surrey, British Columbia, Canada. The café, which opened on July 4, 2025, has been targeted twice within a month, with shots fired first on July 10 and then again on August 7 in separate attacks.

In the early hours of August 7, at around 4:40 a.m., multiple shots were fired at the café, causing significant damage to windows and walls. Fortunately, no staff or patrons were injured in either incident, though the attacks have left many concerned for the safety of Kapil Sharma and his business.

Investigations by the Surrey Police Service and supporting Delta Police Department are ongoing, with the motive still unclear. However, gangster Goldy Dhillon, alleged to be affiliated with the Lawrence Bishnoi gang, has claimed responsibility for the recent attack and issued warnings of further actions, including potential threats in Mumbai if demands are not met. The earlier attack in July was claimed by Harjit Singh Laddi, associated with the Babbar Khalsa International group, citing alleged derogatory comments made by Sharma about the Nihang Sikh community as the cause.

Given the seriousness of these threats and attacks, the Mumbai police have stepped up security measures to protect Kapil Sharma. Officials have confirmed providing adequate protection, though specific details about the security arrangement have not been disclosed.
