FASTag Annual Pass launching on August 15: All you need to know

The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) will introduce the FASTag Annual Pass on August 15, 2025, aligning the rollout with India’s 79th Independence Day celebrations. The new pass aims to simplify toll payments for frequent travellers by offering a one-time payment option for private, non-commercial vehicles such as cars, jeeps, and vans.
The FASTag Annual Pass is integrated into the existing FASTag system and works as a prepaid toll solution. It allows motorists to make up to 200 toll crossings on national highways and expressways within a year, or until the pass expires—whichever occurs first.
The FASTag recharge is designed to enable quicker, cashless transactions at toll booths, reducing delays and helping regular commuters cut down on travel expenses.
This article covers everything you need to know—cost, benefits, eligibility, and a step-by-step guide to purchasing the FASTag Annual Pass online.
How to buy the FASTag Annual Pass online
Motorists can purchase the pass through the Rajmargyatra app or the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) website. The process involves:
- Download the Rajmargyatra app (available for Android and iOS) or visit the NHAI website.
- Log in using your mobile number, then enter your vehicle registration details and existing FASTag ID.
- Confirm that your FASTag is correctly affixed, active, and linked to your vehicle.
- Pay the ₹3,000 fee via any supported online payment method.
- Upon successful payment, the Annual Pass will be linked to your FASTag. You will receive an SMS confirmation, after which you can start using it for up to 200 trips or one year.
FASTag price and coverage
The recharge of the FASTag Annual Pass is priced at ₹3,000, covering up to 200 trips or a one-year validity from the date of activation. Each toll plaza crossing is counted as one trip, allowing motorists to easily keep track of their usage.
Key benefits of the FASTag annual pass
- Cost savings: According to Union Minister Nitin Gadkari, while regular toll charges range between ₹80 and ₹100 per trip, the Annual Pass effectively reduces the cost to about ₹15 per trip, potentially saving drivers around ₹7,000 annually.
- Faster journeys: Eliminates the need for repeated cash or card transactions at toll gates.
- No additional hardware: Works with your current FASTag—no separate tag is necessary.
- Wide coverage: Valid across all national highways and expressways.
How it works
The Annual Pass is linked to your existing FASTag, provided it meets the following criteria:
- The FASTag is securely affixed to the vehicle’s windscreen.
- It is linked to a valid Vehicle Registration Number (VRN).
- It is active and not blacklisted.
The pass is vehicle-specific and cannot be transferred. If it is used with a different vehicle, it will be automatically cancelled.
