Fact Check: Harbhajan Singh’s viral ‘zombie drug’ video was from Rajasthan, not Punjab

New Delhi: A viral video used by BJP Rajya Sabha MP Harbhajan Singh to highlight the alleged drug problem among Punjab’s youth has been wrongly linked to Punjab, according to the Punjab Police.

Harbhajan Singh shared the video on social media and expressed concern over what he described as Punjab’s youth being “besieged by addictions”. He appealed to people to “save my Punjab” and tagged the issue as a serious problem for the state.

However, the Punjab Police subsequently issued a clarification, stating that the video was not from Punjab.

What did the post claim?

Harbhajan Singh's post presented the footage in the context of Punjab's drug crisis. The post, therefore, created the impression that the people seen in the video were from Punjab or that the incident depicted had occurred in the state.

This part is misleading. The Punjab Police has specifically stated that the video was from Sri Ganganagar, Rajasthan.

What did the Punjab Police say?

The police's fact-check made three key points:

• The video originated in Sri Ganganagar, Rajasthan.
• It had no connection with Punjab Police.
• The presence of a Punjabi audio track does not establish that an incident occurred in Punjab.
