Ex-Karnataka DGP murder: Wife, who was previously diagnosed with schizophrenia, detained

Bengaluru: Pallavi, the wife of former Karnataka DGP Om Prakash has been detained, after emerging as the prime suspect in his murder, police said. Sources reveal that Pallavi, who was previously diagnosed with schizophrenia, is under investigation for the fatal stabbing of her husband

Their daughter, Kriti, has also been detained in connection with the case.

Om Prakash, a 1981 batch IPS officer from Bihar, was discovered lying in a pool of blood on the ground floor of his three-storey residence in Bengaluru’s upscale HSR Layout on Sunday.

According to sources, a heated argument broke out between the couple, during which Pallavi allegedly threw chilli powder into Prakash’s face before fatally attacking him.

As the hefty former police chief of Karnataka scrambled for relief from the burning sensation, Pallavi stabbed him multiple times with a knife, killing him on the spot, sources said.

She then made a video call to her friend and reportedly said, "I have killed the monster," sources claimed.

The murder appears to be the result of ongoing tensions between the couple, sources suggest. Reports indicate that a property dispute over land in Dandeli, Karnataka, may have played a significant role in the crime.

Several months ago, Pallavi had approached the HSR Layout police station to file a complaint, but when her request was denied, she reportedly staged a sit-in protest outside the station.

It has also been revealed that Pallavi was diagnosed with schizophrenia and was on medication for 12 years.

Om Prakash, the 68-year-old retired IPS officer from Champaran, Bihar, held a Master’s degree in Geology. He was appointed as the Director General of Police on March 1, 2015.
