DUSU Election 2026: Vote counting underway at Delhi University, results today

New Delhi: Counting of votes for the Delhi University Students’ Union (DUSU) Election 2026 began on Saturday, with results for the four central posts - President, Vice-President, Secretary and Joint Secretary expected to be declared later in the day.

The counting is being held at the Multipurpose Hall of the University Sports Stadium in North Campus, University of Delhi.

Polling concluded on Friday after voting was held in two phases across 52 polling centres. A voter turnout of 40.46 per cent was recorded, the highest in the past three years. Last year, the turnout was 39.5 per cent.

The first phase of polling was held from 8.30am to 1pm, while the second phase, for evening students, took place from 3pm to 7.30pm.

A total of 1,000 Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) were arranged for the election, with 960 deployed for polling and 40 kept in reserve.

Twenty candidates representing major student organisations, including the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), National Students’ Union of India (NSUI), and the All India Students’ Association (AISA)-Students’ Federation of India (SFI) alliance, contested the four central posts.

According to the final provisional candidate list, seven candidates were in the fray for President, five for Vice-President, four for Secretary and four for Joint Secretary.

The presidential contest has primarily featured ABVP's Yash Dabas, NSUI's Vijay Shankar Meena and AISA-SFI's Ananya Raturi. ABVP has fielded Ishu Maurya for Vice-President, while NSUI's candidate for the post is Veer Chatrath.

Ahead of the results, ABVP has claimed victories in several college-level elections. The organisation said it won all four key posts at Aditi Mahavidyalaya, Sri Aurobindo College (Morning), Dr BR Ambedkar College, Bharati College and Shivaji College.

According to ABVP, its candidates secured all posts at Aditi Mahavidyalaya, while its panel recorded a 6-0 victory at Sri Aurobindo College (Morning), won all eight posts at Bharati College and secured all six posts at Shivaji College.

The organisation also claimed that its candidates won all four posts at Dr Bhim Rao Ambedkar College. At Keshav Mahavidyalaya, ABVP candidates won the President, Vice-President and Secretary posts. At Shyama Prasad Mukherjee College, its candidates won the President and Secretary posts, as well as both Central Councillor posts.

At Ramjas College, ABVP candidates won the posts of President, Secretary, Central Councillor and Internal Complaints Committee representative.

The DUSU elections are held annually to elect students to the four central posts of President, Vice-President, Secretary and Joint Secretary. The union represents students from colleges affiliated with the University of Delhi.

Delhi HC bans victory processions

The Delhi High Court has prohibited victory processions following the declaration of the DUSU election results. The restriction applies to roads as well as university campuses and hostels.

A bench comprising Chief Justice D K Upadhyaya and Justice Tejas Karia also issued notices to student organisations and all 140 candidates, seeking their responses on why electoral damages should not be imposed over alleged violations of election norms.

The court's directions came amid concerns over alleged violations of the Lyngdoh Committee recommendations and other election rules during the campaign. Delhi Police told the court that FIRs had been registered and arrests made in connection with violations.

The court directed the Delhi Police and Delhi University to take preventive measures and ensure compliance with the Lyngdoh Committee recommendations and its earlier orders.

Any violation of the ban on victory processions could invite criminal and administrative action and may also amount to contempt of court, the court said.
