‘Dragged to police station, beaten’: Two women journalists allege assault by Delhi Police

New Delhi: Two independent women journalists on Thursday alleged that they were detained and assaulted by Delhi Police personnel while covering a news event in South Delhi.

The journalists alleged that police personnel detained them while they were reporting and subsequently assaulted them. They told PTI that they were on their way to AIIMS for medical examinations and to obtain their medico-legal certificates (MLCs).

A video released by the journalists' news organisation details allegations against Delhi Police personnel. In the video, a police official is seen seated at his desk as one of the journalists raises allegations against the personnel.

According to the journalists, one of them was attempting to raise a question regarding Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta when police personnel allegedly intervened. The journalist claimed in the video that police personnel grabbed her, dragged her to the police station and beat her.

There was no immediate response from Delhi Police to the allegations. Meanwhile, the Aam Aadmi Party criticised the BJP-led Delhi government over the incident.

AAP leader Saurabh Bharadwaj, in a post on X, said, "Two women reporters have been very brutally beaten by Delhi Police for asking questions from CM Rekha Gupta. Shame on woman CM Rekha Gupta."
