Hassan: A visit by Karnataka Chief Minister D K Shivakumar to the Hasanamba temple in Hassan triggered angry scenes on Sunday, with devotees throwing slippers at a large screen broadcasting visuals of him performing special prayers inside the shrine.

The protest reportedly broke out after ordinary devotees, who had been waiting for hours to have darshan of Goddess Hasanamba, faced restrictions during the Chief Minister's visit. The arrangements for his visit and the delay in public darshan left several devotees frustrated, leading to slogans against Shivakumar.

Visuals of the Chief Minister performing rituals inside the temple's sanctum were being shown live on a large screen installed outside. Some devotees, angered by the special arrangements, were seen hurling slippers at the screen.

Meanwhile, Shivakumar shared photographs and videos of his visit to the Hasanamba temple on X, describing the experience as a moment of divine blessings.

He said he had visited the shrine, along with his family, and offered special prayers to the presiding deity of Hassan.

In his message, the Chief Minister said he prayed for happiness, peace and contentment in every household across Karnataka, and wished for prosperity in people's lives.

He also shared a separate post describing the experience as "the precious moments of having the divine darshan of the Mother of the Universe, Hāsanāmbā".

Hassan district in-charge Minister K M Shivalinge Gowda and Hassan MP Shreyas M Patel were among the dignitaries present during the visit.
