The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) on Wednesday set up an eight-member special oversight team to closely monitor IndiGo’s operations as the airline continues to face large-scale disruptions across its network.

According to the official order, the team includes senior flight operations inspectors:

Capt Vikram Sharma, Capt Kapil Mangalik, Capt V.P. Singh, Capt Apoorva Agarwal, Capt Swati Loomba, Capt Aman Suhag, Capt Nitya Jain, and Capt N.J. Singh.

The DGCA has directed that two members of this team will be stationed every day at IndiGo’s corporate headquarters in Emaar Capital Tower 2, Gurugram. Their job is to gather real-time data, verify airline processes, and ensure compliance with safety and operational norms.

The oversight group has been asked to review several key operational areas, including:

  • Total fleet in operation
  • Average stage length (distance flown)
  • Total number of active pilots
  • Network deployment and scheduling
  • Pilot and cabin crew utilisation hours
  • Deadheading requirements (crew flying as passengers for duty)
  • Number of crew members under training
  • Split-duty schedules
  • All types of unplanned leave, sick leave, casual leave, emergency leave

This scrutiny comes at a time when IndiGo is dealing with widespread flight delays, cancellations, and crew shortages.

In a separate move, the DGCA has also placed two more officers, Aishveer Singh, Deputy Director (AED), and Mani Bhushan, Senior Statistical Officer at IndiGo’s Gurugram office.

Their role is to track cancellation trends, both domestic and international, and oversee refund status for airline bookings and OTA (online travel agency) bookings, on-time performance (OTP), compensation given to passengers under DGCA’s Civil Aviation Requirements (CAR) and timelines for baggage return

Both teams must submit a detailed daily report by 6 p.m. to the DGCA’s Joint Director General (Administration) and Joint Director General Jai Prakash Pandey.
