A major case of milk adulteration unearthed in Gujarat has sparked widespread outrage on social media, with users branding it a serious public health offence and questioning how such an operation went undetected for years.

The Sabarkantha Local Crime Branch (LCB) on Friday busted a factory allegedly involved in the large-scale production of adulterated milk near Salal village in Prantij taluka.

The unit, operating under the name Shree Satya Dairy Products, is accused of supplying chemically adulterated milk and buttermilk across villages in Sabarkantha and Mehsana districts for nearly five years, according to a report by The Times of India.

Police officials said the accused used only about 300 litres of genuine milk to manufacture nearly 1,700 to 1,800 litres of adulterated milk every day. The mixture allegedly included water, milk powder, caustic soda, refined palm oil, refined soybean oil, detergent powder and urea fertiliser.

The adulterated milk was packed in pouches and distributed locally, officials added.

Following the raid, the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) destroyed 1,370 litres of “unsafe milk” on the spot.

The incident has reignited concerns over food safety enforcement and regulatory oversight, with many online users demanding stricter action against those involved and stronger monitoring mechanisms to prevent similar violations.
