Delhi’s Karol Bagh building collapse: One dead, three injured as two floors cave in

One person was killed and three others were injured after a portion of an old, dilapidated building collapsed in Delhi's Karol Bagh on Friday while demolition work was underway.

The incident took place on Pyarelal Road near Jewellers, prompting the Delhi Fire Service to rush rescue teams to the spot.

Officials said at least two people were pulled out from the affected area and taken to Jeevanmala Hospital for treatment.

According to Delhi Fire Service officials, the building was in a severely dilapidated condition and demolition work was being carried out when the structure gave way. 

Fire personnel continued searching the site to check whether anyone else could be trapped beneath the debris.

Delhi Fire Service Divisional Officer Ramgopal Meena said the department received information about the incident and immediately dispatched personnel to the location.

He said the exact age of the building was not known, but it was understood to be a very old structure in a poor condition.

The incident comes weeks after a four-storey under-construction building collapsed in Delhi's Rohini area, killing three people and injuring another.

The Delhi Fire Service and other agencies had launched a rescue operation at the site, while police later registered an FIR in connection with the collapse.

The repeated incidents involving ageing and under-construction structures have once again highlighted concerns over building safety and demolition practices in densely populated areas of the national capital.
