New Delhi: Light rain and drizzle are likely across Delhi on Tuesday, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasting cloudy skies, thunderstorms and gusty winds through the day.

According to the IMD weather update, the national capital is expected to witness intermittent rainfall activity, particularly during the afternoon and evening hours. Thunderstorms accompanied by gusty winds are also likely, with wind speeds ranging between 20–30 kmph and gusts reaching up to 40 kmph.

The IMD has issued a yellow alert for Delhi weather, cautioning residents about sudden weather changes, lightning and strong winds. The advisory follows a spell of rain and high winds on Monday, when the weather department briefly upgraded its warning to an orange alert, signalling moderate rainfall, lightning strikes and stronger gusts across Delhi-NCR.

Delhi rain forecast and weather conditions

The latest Delhi weather forecast indicates scattered light rain, overcast skies and short sunny intervals throughout Tuesday. Residents are advised to stay alert during thunderstorms and avoid open areas during lightning activity.

Neighbouring regions also remain under weather watch. The IMD has predicted dust storms, thunderstorms, lightning and light rainfall across parts of Haryana — including Farukhnagar, Kosali, Mahendargarh, Sohna, Rewari, Palwal, Narnaul, Bawal and Nuh — along with areas in Rajasthan such as Bhiwadi and Khairthal. Wind speeds in these regions could reach 60–80 kmph, intensifying local weather conditions.

Western disturbance driving Delhi weather

Meteorologists attribute the current weather pattern to an active western disturbance over north Iran and the Caspian Sea region, coupled with cyclonic circulation over northwest Rajasthan. Another western disturbance is expected around April 2, which could bring very light rain to Delhi on April 3 and April 4.

Delhi air quality likely to improve temporarily

The changing weather in Delhi is also expected to bring temporary relief to air pollution levels. Rainfall and strong winds typically help disperse pollutants, leading to a short-term improvement in the Delhi Air Quality Index (AQI).

Recent trends suggest that while rain reduces pollution levels briefly, AQI in Delhi often remains in the ‘poor’ to ‘very poor’ category, indicating only partial and short-lived relief. However, gusty winds associated with thunderstorms can significantly improve air dispersion conditions.
