India weather update: IMD issues orange alert for Delhi; Thunderstorms predicted in south India

New Delhi: Several parts of Delhi and the National Capital Region (NCR) were drenched on Tuesday morning after overnight rainfall and thunderstorms brought much-needed relief from the recent heat. The showers, accompanied by gusty winds reaching up to 40 kmph, prompted the India Meteorological Department (IMD) to issue an Orange alert for Delhi, Noida and Ghaziabad, while Gurugram and Faridabad were placed under a yellow warning.

Changing weather pattern in Delhi

According to the IMD, the weather in Delhi is expected to shift gradually from October 7 to 12. On October 7, light to moderate rainfall and cloudy skies are likely to keep the conditions pleasant.

From October 8 onwards, the rain is expected to subside, giving way to partly cloudy skies and a slight rise in temperature.

Clear skies and stable temperatures are predicted for October 9 and 10, with plenty of sunshine expected through the day.

Hyderabad: Moderate rain predicted

Hyderabad is expected to experience cloudy skies with moderate rainfall and thundershowers. Temperatures are likely to range between a low of 22°C and a high of 31°C, while humidity levels may fluctuate between 53 and 79 percent. No weather warnings have been issued for the city.

Amaravati: Thunderstorms expected

In Amaravati, the IMD has forecast cloudy skies with one or two spells of rain or thundershowers. Temperatures are likely to hover between 26°C and 35°C. The city may experience thunderstorms accompanied by lightning.

Bengaluru: Light rain with cloudy skies

Bengaluru will remain mostly cloudy with one or two spells of light rain or thundershowers. Temperatures are expected to stay between 20°C and 28°C, with humidity levels ranging from 65 to 85 percent. No weather warnings have been issued for the region.

Thiruvananthapuram: Thundershowers and gusty winds

Thiruvananthapuram is expected to have a partly cloudy sky with one or two spells of rain or thundershowers. Temperatures may range between 25°C and 34°C, and humidity levels are expected to vary between 70 and 80 percent. The IMD has warned of light to moderate rainfall with thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds reaching 30 to 40 kmph.

Chennai: Chances of moderate rain

Chennai will have a partly cloudy sky with the possibility of moderate rainfall or thunderstorms. Temperatures are predicted to range between 26°C and 35°C. The IMD has also indicated a likelihood of thunderstorms accompanied by lightning.
