Delhi Metro closes 16 stations amid CJP protest, heavy security across capital

New Delhi: Several Delhi Metro stations will remain closed from 7:30 am on Thursday until further instructions amid heightened security arrangements in the national capital in view of the ongoing Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) protests.

According to the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC), the affected stations are Lok Kalyan Marg, Rajiv Chowk, Patel Chowk, Ramakrishna Ashram Marg, Barakhamba Road, Supreme Court, Seva Teerth, Janpath, Mandi House, Central Secretariat, ITO, Delhi Gate, Indraprastha, Khan Market, Jor Bagh, and Shivaji Stadium.

The DMRC said that while these stations will remain closed for entry and exit, interchange facilities will continue to be available at Rajiv Chowk, Mandi House, and Central Secretariat.

The restrictions come as heavy security has been deployed across central Delhi, particularly around Jantar Mantar and other sensitive locations, where the CJP is continuing its protest demanding the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan over the paper leaks controversy.

Commuters have been advised to plan their journeys accordingly and follow official updates from the DMRC and Delhi Police regarding further changes to metro services.

Meanwhile, a Delhi Police officer was injured in fresh violence in Connaught Place on Wednesday as some miscreants attacked police with stones and bottles, officials said.

According to Delhi Police, at around 8:30 pm, near Tolstoy Marg in Connaught Place, some miscreants attacked the police with stones and bottles, injuring ACP Connaught Place Vivek Bhagat.

Senior officers took him to RML Hospital. The situation was tense for a few minutes, but now there is peace, police officials said.

Meanwhile, Police allegedly stopped a delegation of the opposition MPs from meeting activist Sonam Wangchuk at Medanta Hospital.

JMM MP Mahua Majhi told reporters, "This protest was going on for 22 days before the session began. Where was the Delhi government at that time?... Today, we went to meet Sona Wangchuk. Why weren't we allowed to meet him? We were stopped at the gate. His wife told us that he had no court order prohibiting anyone from meeting him..."
